What is the probability that three tails do not come up on a throw of three Dimes?
I dont know how to set up and answer this one, any help would be appreciated
The probability that all three coins come up tails is 0.5*0.5*0.5 = 0.125
Call this P(x)
P(not x) can be calculated by 1 – P(x)
P(not x) is the probability that they don’t all come up tails
So in this case 1 – 0.125
Your answer is 0.875
7/8 is ur answer

i have studied this in my studies
it is 8 to 1 against flipping three heads….1/2 X 1/2 x1/2

You need to list all possible options. T = Tails, H = Heads, 3 coins…
T,T,T
T,T,H
T,H,T
T,H,H
H,T,T
H,T,H
H,H,T
H,H,H
That’s all 8 possibilities. There is 7 chances in 8 that all three will not be tails. (Because there is only 1 chance where they will all be tails). The probability is 7/8.

Sometimes it is easier to calculate the probability that something WILL happen and then subtract that from 1 to get the probability that it WILL NOT happen.
For each coin, the chance of tails is 1/2, so for 3 coins, the chance of 3 tails is 1/8 (1/2^3). So, the chance of NOT getting 3 tails is 1-1/8 or 7/8.

There’s 1/2 chance of any single dime landing on tails.
In order to get the probability of all three getting tails, you’ll take 1/2 * 1/2 *1/2.
Which equal 1/8.
There’s a 1 in 8 chance that you’ll get all tails, or a 7 in 8 chance that they end up not all tails.
References :
Each dime has a 1/2 or 0.5 or 50% probability of a tail. With two dimes that’s 0.5*0.5 =0.25 (25%) of two tails. With three dimes, that 1/2 * 1/2 * 1/2 = 1/8 = 0.125 = 12.5% of getting tree tails in a 3 dimes throw.
Consequently that 1- 1/8 = 7/8 or 87.5% of not having 3 tails in a row or in a 3 dimes throw.
References :
probably that a tail will come up:
first throw 1/2
second throw 1/2
third throw 1/2
multiply all these together because you are looking for the probability that three tails come up 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2 = 1/8
Subtract this from 1
1- 1/8 = 7/8
the answer is 7/8

Each toss as a 1 in 2 chance of being tails (1:2) or (1/2). while each toss in independent, 3 toss in a row have the product of the individual odds or (1/2)**3 or 1:8 = (1/2 * 1/2 * 1/2)
easy test, get two buddies and try it a 100 times.

the probability of tails, T happening is p=0.5
the possible outcomes for the event throwing a coin 3 times, are the following 8 events:
HHH HHT HTH HTT TTT TTH THT THH
the total probability is 100% and all this outcomes have equal chances of happening so the probability for TTT is 1/8
You can also calculate this as: p*p*p = 0,125

1st throw = probability is 1/2
2nd throw = probability is 1/2
3rd throw = probability is 1/2
=1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2
=1/8
